10/4/2012: Hockey Today

— AHL camps are starting to cut players, which means there are going to be a lot of transactions to keep up on…I have to get up pretty early tomorrow and need to sleep, so here’s an abbreviated version of Hockey Today.

— (Hershey PR) The HERSHEY BEARS announced today that 12 players have been released from the club’s 2012 training camp. The announcement was made by BEARS President/GM Doug Yingst.

The 12 players, all of whom will report to the ECHL’s Reading Royals, are defensemen Adam Comrie, Dustin Stevenson, Brad Walch and Scott Wietecha; forwards David Civitarese, Tyler Gron, David Marhsall, Jesse Todd and David Vallorani; and goaltenders Brandon Anderson, Philipp Grubauer and Sergey Kostenko.

— (Wheeling PR) The Hamilton Bulldogs assigned forwards Stefan Chaput, Olivier Fortier, and Ian Schultz, as well as defenseman Joe Stejskal to the Nailers. Hamilton also released forward Zack Torquato and goaltender Scott Darling from their training camp, meaning they will be reporting to Wheeling, where they were previously signed this summer.

— (Norfolk PR) Norfolk Admirals Assistant General Manager Bob Ferguson announced today that the Admirals’ training camp roster has been reduced by six players.

The following five players have been released from their training camp tryouts:

Chris Auger – Forward

Andrew Conboy – Left Wing

Brandon Marino – Right Wing

Brett Perlini – Right Wing

Jean-Michel Rizk – Right Wing

In addition, defenseman Ryan Hegarty has been loaned to the Fort Wayne Komets of the ECHL.

— (Rockford PR) Chicago Blackhawks General Manager of Minor League Affiliations Mark Bernard announced on Thursday that the American Hockey League’s Rockford IceHogs have released forwards Travis Novak and Jake Trask from their Professional Try Out (PTO).

Both players are expected to report to the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL.

— Defenseman Colton Jobke, in camp with the Houston Aeros, was reassigned to his junior team, the Regina Pats.

— (Allen PR) The Allen Americans of the Central Hockey League announced today that Ryley Grantham and Mike Montgomery have been re-assigned to Allen from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League.

— (Charlotte PR) Charlotte Checkers head coach and general manager Jeff Daniels announced today the team has assigned four players to its ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades. The Checkers’ roster now stands at 31 players and an updated roster is attached to this release.

Assigned to Florida were forwards Matt Beca and David Rutherford, defenseman Joe Sova and goaltender Rob Madore. Additionally, defenseman Bobby Raymond was released from his tryout contract and will report to Florida.

— (Worcester PR) Worcester Sharks general manager Wayne Thomas announced today that the club has released four players from the Worcester Sharks training camp.

Defensemen Mike Little, Edwin Shea, Jordan Behler, and William Wrenn were released from the Worcester Sharks training camp roster.

Shea is perhaps the most notable of those players, having spent his past four seasons at Boston College.

— (Orlando PR) The Orlando Solar Bears announced today that Sean Lorenz, the captain of Notre Dame last season, has been assigned to the team.  In addition, the Solar Bears have agreed to terms with forward Ryan Ginand and have added forward C.J. Severyn on a PTO (Professional Tryout) contract and defenseman Chris Haltigin on an ATO (Amateur Tryout) contract. Houston also assigned forwards Josh Caron and Nick Petersen, and defensemen Corbin Baldwin and Kyle Medvec. The Solar Bears have released forwards Gary Klapkowski and Mathieu Melanson. 

— The ECHL’s Las Vegas Wranglers have released goaltender Shaun Hunwick from their camp roster.
