Mike Ashmore is a 30-year-old sportswriter who serves as the national hockey writer and Princeton Tigers men’s hockey team beat writer for The Trentonian.  He is also the ECHL’s national alumni feature writer, and his work was featured in the prestigious The Hockey News on numerous occasions during the 2012-13 season.

Ashmore most recently covered the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals in both Boston and Chicago for ECHL.com, The Trentonian and Digital First Media, with his work appearing in countless print and web outlets.  Most notably, he covered the Stanley Cup Finals, Calder Cup Finals and Kelly Cup Finals in 2012-13, and is believed to be the only reporter able to make that claim.

In addition to covering the 2013 NHL Draft, he also worked the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals in both Newark and Los Angeles for both The Trentonian and Los Angeles Daily News and covered the previous three rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in Newark and Manhattan for ECHL.com and The Trentonian.

He also serves as the Hunterdon County Democrat’s beat writer for the New York Yankees Double-A Affiliate, the Trenton Thunder, and MyCentralJersey.com’s beat writer for the independent Atlantic League’s Somerset Patriots.  In addition, Ashmore covered the ECHL’s Trenton franchise for five seasons before they folded and wrote for the SIFL’s Trenton Steel for their lone season in 2011, traveling with the team to all road games.

Now finishing up his 11th year in the business, Ashmore has covered over 1,300 professional games and interviewed everyone from World Series and Super Bowl MVP’s to NASCAR champions and NBA MVP’s. He’s covered seven championship teams, three cycles, three no-hitters, a triple play and has interviewed over 500 Major League Baseball players, including 11 Hall of Famers.

He’s also covered eight different MLB teams on occasion, including the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. Ashmore covered the 2011 and 2013 MLB All-Star Games, as well as six MLB playoff series in his career (2009 ALDS, 2010 ALDS, 2010 ALCS, 2011 ALDS, 2012 ALDS and 2012 ALCS), and three Futures Games (2008, 2011, 2013).

In addition, Ashmore has covered the New York Rangers, New York Giants, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders, Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Nashville Predators, the UFC and countless minor league teams, as well as the 2012 AHL All-Star Game in Atlantic City and 2013 AHL All-Star Game in Providence.

He’s been interviewed on WFAN twice, his videos have been seen on MLB Network and ESPN’s Baseball Tonight and his name and photos have appeared anywhere from The New York Times to MLB.com. His byline has also been seen on NBA.com, The Star-Ledger and the Times Union (Albany, NY) to name a few. He co-hosted a sports talk radio show on WDVR and in addition to appearing on countless pre and post-game radio shows, has previously provided color analysis for Atlantic League games on WCTC.
